Functional Area

The purpose of this assignment is for you to learn about functional areas in the field of student affairs. You will select someone to interview who currently works in a functional area of interest to you. If possible, select someone who is not affiliated with your current institution. You will interview a practitioner in that particular area to enhance your understanding of current trends and issues and glean firsthand aspects of their role(s) and responsibilities. Each of you will research and present about one functional area. You will work to present about your functional area and insight on the area from your interviewee using a digital platform. Your presentation needs to be between 15 – 20 minutes and must engage your classmates. Be creative! There are many ways to get your classmates involved in a virtual platform. Lastly, you should provide classmates with a job announcement for a professional position within that functional area. Job announcements can be found in The Chronicle of Higher Education, Diverse Issues in Higher Education, www.studentaffairs.comwww.higheredjobs.com, and the websites of professional associations. Consider how someone who works in the functional area you are studying would engage students virtually. In addition to your presentation, you will submit an infographic – a one-page overview of your functional area. Make sure you cite at least two sources, aside from our class text or readings that I provide, for your infographic.
