Scholarship Application

In 750 words or less please write a personal statement discussing each of the following:
1. Academic goals
– Finish bachelors which will finish a few associate degrees (math, physics, and engineering) in community college as well since I only have a few class requirements left that overlap.
– Be the first person in my family to finish university.
– Raise GPA at least .3-.5 (I’m not sure what a feasible amount is since I took my hardest classes first such as physics and calculus)
– Get my first scholarship
– Get an internship
– Graduate in projected time (2024)
– Learn programming
– Get tutoring for engineering courses since they’ll be applied physics
2. Career objectives
– Upgrade from managing tech departments
– Use industrial engineering to be a part of management teams in the defense sector or aeronautics
– internships to see which companies are available and have the experience to start a salaried position post graduation
3. Leadership activities
– I used to manage an electronics store and then a tech department that repaired electronics
– Did associate student government to learn about legislature and
– united women and Hispanics in STEM clubs to create events that celebrated historical stem milestones and share those moments with the rest of students and their families
– registered students to vote
– random but owned a dog walking business as an 8 year old (not necessary to add I’m just brainstorming things I’ve done that include leadership)
– In high school, I was a part of future business leaders of America FBLA and managed the espresso stand during football games and was one of the leads on camps locations
4. Why this scholarship would be helpful to you
– I have a 6 month old son so I don’t qualify for student housing and there’s no family housing available through cal poly Pomona. It’d help me get housing close to campus
– Living close to campus will make hands on classes easier and I can spend more time on campus instead of on travel time. If I could live on campus I would.
– It’d help with childcare until he qualifies for childcare through campus. I’d be able to get in home tutors the time he’s home and focus on courses while he’s not.
– tutors would help me with applied physics once engineering courses start. Getting good grades would help boost my GPA
– increasing my GPA will help with job placement and reaching career goals
– it’d help cover book prices, materials since engineering courses can require additional materials, and supplies and I also need a new calculator. I’ve been using one I found online, but I don’t have access to it during exams
– flexible scholarships would help with food
5. Any relevant information you feel the committee should take into consideration when assessing the application, including disadvantages or hardships you have overcome, work or volunteer experience related to your area of study, and any achievements worthy of mentioning.
– (if any of the previous things could fit here instead of where I placed him, they can go here)
– My mom was deported a few years ago and I’ve been paying for expenses out of pocket since then
– Having to enter adulthood in an unprecedented time and being the first generation to go to college, I wasn’t sure how to move through the education system. I basically did everything wrong and took my hardest classes first thinking getting them out of the way would be the best thing.
– I also thought working full time in tech would help my resume and help me overcome the financial burden I had since I was at the time and out state student ( out of state tuition in California was the same as in state tuition in Washington so I moved here knowing I could become a resident after a year)
– Instead, it destroyed my gpa and I didn’t realize how important it was until I needed a recommendation letter from a professor to override my poor gpa and get into a NASA program for college students.
– Once I saw how my gpa was being affected I decided to leave my job and apply for scholarships but I’ve been denied a scholarships since I don’t qualify for the majority of them
– In order to qualify for scholarships and add a buffer to my poor gpa, I had joined associated student government in a leadership position and anytime I work I try getting a management position.
