University Level Improvement Plan
The student will read and discuss a wide range of system improvement research designed to implement a
system level strategic improvement project. Students will then prepare a paper following APA
Publication Manual, Sixth Edition, that introduces the system level strategic process that needs to
be improved, and share the data and their analysis that supports the district level performance
problem. After instructor approval of the project, students will use the following school improvement
planning outline and a variety of tools to design and implement a system level improvement plan:
Detailed Outline
- The Problem [8-10 citations]
a. What is the university performance problem? [Describe it in simple terms with
no jargon.]
b. Describe the school system. Provide historical information relevant to this
improvement plan.
c. What research do you have to support your district level improvement strategy?
[Include citations of effectiveness research]
d. What theory of change will you use to guide your improvement plan? [Include
citations of theory and/or research.] - Theory of Action
a. Theory of Action Statement
(Minimum of 3 ifs) - Academic Strategy
a. What is the executive summary or “big picture” of the improvement actions that
will be taken to put your theory into practice and solve the problem identified?
b. What are the expected results and when should we expect them? The expected
